The next round of Imserso travel program sales begins on September 14, though not all retirees will have equal booking opportunities. Access depends on a scoring system that considers past participation, age, income, and personal circumstances, allowing some applicants to secure spots before general registration opens.
How the scoring system works
The state agency assigns points based on four key factors. Those who missed the last two seasons but were waitlisted in the most recent one receive the highest advantage. These applicants earn 225 points: 50 for skipping two years and 175 for being on the waiting list.
Retirees who traveled in the previous season but not the one before it get 20 points. Skipping only the last season while having traveled the year prior grants 40 points.
Income influences the score. Pensions below €628.80 per month add 50 points. The benefit decreases as income rises: 45 points for pensions between €628.80 and €900, 40 for those between €900 and €1,050, and so on, until it reaches zero for pensions above €2,100.
Age provides a smaller but noticeable boost. Applicants start with two points at 60, gaining one extra point each year until they reach 20 points at 78. For joint applications, the system averages the ages of both participants.

Extra points are available for disabilities (10 points), large families in the special category (10 points), and general large families (5 points). These elements together determine whether an applicant qualifies as preferente, a status that allows earlier booking access.
Booking dates vary by region
Sales for the 2026/2027 season will launch first in nine regions: Andalusia, Aragón, Castilla y León, Extremadura, Galicia, Madrid, Melilla, Navarra, and La Rioja. Preferred applicants can reserve trips starting September 14, while others must wait until the following day.
The remaining regions—Asturias, Catalonia, Castilla-La Mancha, Valencia, Ceuta, the Balearic Islands, the Canary Islands, Cantabria, Murcia, and the Basque Country—will open preferred access on September 16, with general registration beginning on September 17.
The system’s focus on past participation may disadvantage some retirees. Those who traveled recently could find themselves lower in the queue, while others who missed previous opportunities receive another chance. The agency has not indicated plans to change the criteria, so the same rules will likely continue in future seasons.
Retirees aiming for their preferred destination and dates should review their scores carefully. The program’s popularity means even a minor point difference can determine whether a trip is secured or delayed to the waiting list.
