Enoturismo in California receives a significant upgrade with the opening of a newly transformed Flora Springs Winery. Located along Highway 29 in the heart of Napa Valley, the facility now features an unmistakable architectural profile. The winery, inspired by Flora, the Roman goddess of flowers, renewal, and abundance, has emerged as a new landmark in the region. This renovation, led by owners Gina Gallo-Boisset and Jean-Charles Boisset, marks a distinct shift from a standard production site to an immersive cultural destination. The owners have emphasized that this project required a deep investigation into the history of Flora Springs to ensure the new design honors the past while adopting the future.
A New Identity Through Art
The new identity of Flora Springs was born from a collaboration between the Boisset vision and the artistic craftsmanship of SICIS. The project began with a visit to the SICIS showroom in Paris, where the mosaic language sparked the initial concept for the tasting rooms. This interaction evolved into a broader redesign that extends throughout the entire property. The structure now features a luminous mosaic facade that mirrors the local environment, transitioning from the valley’s rich earth tones to the green slopes of the Mayacamas mountains and the sky above the vineyards. The owners drew direct inspiration from the surrounding environment to create a facade that feels like a natural extension of the terrain.

More than 1,100 square meters of hand-laid tiles now envelop the building inside and out. These tesserae create a continuous dialogue between the architecture and the Napa Valley scenery. The three tasting rooms, clad in mosaic, function as immersive galleries. They guide visitors through a visual narrative of transformation, moving from awakening to flowering and finally to the harvest. This design approach ensures that art, nature, and wine are integrated into a single experience. The layout encourages guests to move slowly through the space, allowing them to absorb the details of the mosaic work as they transition between different areas of the winery.
The Botticelli Interpretation
The artistic centerpiece of the renovation is a site-specific mosaic reinterpretation of Botticelli’s The Birth of Venus. Covering approximately 18 square meters, this work anchors the central tasting bar. It serves as a visual anchor for guests moving through the space. The design draws heavily from Botticelli’s iconography, specifically La Primavera, which features the nymph Clori transformed into Flora by Zephyr. This mythological narrative mirrors the cycle of the vine and the annual evolution of the winery. The narrative serves as a metaphor for renewal, beauty, and abundance, finding a direct correspondence in the annual cycle of the vineyard.

Outside, the courtyard offers a different perspective with a mosaic of butterflies and flowers. This design frames the view toward the garden and the panoramic terrace. The interiors feature collections from SICIS, including Iridium, Murano, and Colibrì, chosen for their chromatic balances and contrasts. These materials are matched with custom furniture to create a cohesive environment. The experience flows from the outdoor terrace down to the interior caves, with each step reinforced by the surrounding mosaic work. The transition from the warm tones of the outdoor terrace to the cooler tones of the interior caves is managed by the specific placement of the mosaic and glass materials.
Design Details and Materials
Vetrite, SICIS’s large-format glass surface, plays a key role in the project. It appears in the floors, inserts, and details of the room. This material reflects light and interacts with the mosaic to create visual continuity. The furniture is not merely decorative but is an extension of the mosaic pattern. The Amaretto seating fabric was developed exclusively for this project to complement the surrounding chromatic schemes. Tables, bar stools, and outdoor components were all custom-developed to suit the specific needs of the winery. The tables Philippe, featuring Vetrite tops, complete a stage management system where every detail accompanies the guest from the panoramic terrace down to the internal caves.
